by alex

Do you want to venture into a unique, yet profitable farming business? Or maybe you’d like to encounter and experience breeding a very different, yet graceful herd of animals? Then you’re on the right article. Read on to find out more on investing in alpaca farms.

Alpacas are domesticated camelids, with its major population found in South American countries (mainly Peru, Bolivia and Chile). There are, however, alpaca breeders found across the world. It distinctly resembles a llama, except it has a much more lustrous fleece. Alpaca fiber, which is somehow similar to wool, is prized for being warmer, silky, and hypoallergenic (due to not containing any trace of lanolin). Due to the alpaca fiber’s distinct qualities, the past Incan generation named it “The Fiber of the Gods”.

Since alpacas produce such prestigious fiber, market value of the animals and the products from their fleece are constantly high. A female alpaca would be prized at around $20,000! Still, an investment on these camelids can prove to be fruitful.

Now that you know the potentially high returns you can get from alpacas, here are a few tips on how to start your Fiber of the Gods investment:

Find your Alpaca – source out alpaca breeders from the net. Make sure to check for websites with reviews. This way, you’ll get the best value for your money. Also, compare prizes between multiple sites. You never know if a breeder is charging more than another.

Start small – once you find a breeder, choose your alpaca. Start with at least a male and female alpaca, slowly adding additional females once you’ve save up on enough money. Alpacas are fairly easy to manage, it just takes a lot of patience before they breed. Increasing the size of your herd may take time, but make sure your animals are well taken care of. Better yet, get a breeder that would suggest the best way on caring for your herd.

Shorn business – before getting your fiber, you have to make sure your alpacas are kept in a safe facility. Invest on proper facilities, such as a barn, for the herd to live in. If needed, hire someone experienced on alpaca care. Also, make sure alpacas have at least a pasture to graze in.

I herd that – give the care your herd deserves. Alpacas are noted to be very personable. Get to experience life with them – after all, investment is more than just giving out money. Time and attention is needed as well.

Alpaca farm management is not only profitable, but can also be considered a great way to relieve stress. Business profit aside, you get to earn a fairly cheerful experience with alpacas as well.
